Russian Sports Minister Pavel Kolobkov said on Wednesday that the target for the national football team was to enter the Top 10 of FIFA’s monthly ranking Tass reported.
“The Russian national football team’s task is to enter the Top-10 of the FIFA Ranking,” Kolobkov told journalists. “This is a challenge because all national teams are playing football at the professional level nowadays. We [Russia] are doing very well at the moment.”
The latest list released on November 28 had Russia drop one place to 38 in the world compared to the previous month of October with 1,470 points.
In ten games played this year, Russia lost twice-both times-against number one ranked Belgium but delivered big wins in June (9-0 v San Marino), October (4-0 v Scotland and 5-0 v Cyprus) then 5-0 away to San Marino in November.
The team finished second in qualifying for Euro 2020 from Group I behind Belgium.
