Newcastle full-back Jetro Willems insists Spanish winger Adama Traore is harder to defend against than Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Magpies were away at Wolves last Saturday where they played out a 1-1 draw with Willems giving the physical task of shadowing Traore all afternoon.
Traore’s team mate Romain Saiss only last week revealed that American football teams had approached the 23-year-old for a possible career switch.
Dutch international defender, Willems, on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt, was able to stop the powerful winger from scoring but spoke to the Northern Echo clearly stuck to the memories of the duel.
“He is unbelievable. Not only is he incredibly fast, he is so, so strong as well.
“He’s known as the fastest man in football and now I know that is true. I like to think I am quite fast too – at least I did before playing against him! That was something else.
“I have played against Ronaldo, who is fast, but not that fast. Of course, he is so skilful but sometimes that is easier than being up against someone with such incredible pace.”
“I have played against some very good players in my career, but no one quite as fast as Traore,”
Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp also commented on the strength of Traore after his team beat Wolves 1-0 in gameweek 18.
