Barcelona are rumoured to be sizing a move for Fiorentina forward Kevin-Prince Boateng following the long-term injury to Luiz Suarez.
Suarez, 32, will be out of action for the rest of the season after having an operation to treat an injury to correct a tissue problem in his right knee.
According to Marca, Boateng, 32, who previously joined the Catalan giants in January 2019 on loan from Sassuolo until the end of the 2018–19 season as cover for Luis Suarez might be called upon once again.
Barca have no natural replacement for Suarez at centre-forward, with Antoine Griezmann the only viable option unless the team decides to sign a striker before the transfer window closes on February 1.
With the status of Ousmane Dembele still unknown in terms of when he will be ready to come back players like Ansu Fati and Carles Perez may star regularly if Boateng or any form of reinforcements fail to come in.
The other names being thrown around as possible transfer targets are Inter’s Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa, Lille’s Victor Osimhen, AC Milan’s Rafael Leao and Osasuna’s Ezequiel Avila.
