Newcastle United have announced the signing of Algerian midfielder Nabil Bentaleb on loan from Schalke in the German Bundesliga until the end of the season.
The 25-year-old is yet to feature for Schalke this season under David Wagner and the deal is believed to contain an option to buy permanently.
He returns to the Premier League for the first time since leaving Tottenham Hotspur in 2016 two years after Mauricio Pochettino began his mini revolution at the North London club.
“I’m very happy to come back to the Premier League, especially with a club such as Newcastle,” he told the club’s official website.
“The project really interested me. I wanted absolutely to come back to the Premier League. The coach had some trust in me and the club also – I saw that straight away – and I think it’s the perfect move for me.”
Bentaleb is expected to lift an injury ravaged Newcastle team with limited creative options in midfield outside of Miguel Almirón.
